Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Provide inspirational leadership, mentorship, and direct line management to a team of vocational tutors, fostering a positive and high-performing team culture.
- Conduct regular and robust observations of teaching, learning, and assessment (OTLA) to monitor quality, identify areas for improvement, and provide constructive, developmental feedback.
- Oversee and drive the team's performance against key performance indicators (KPIs), including learner retention, progression, achievement, and timely completion rates.
- Act as the main point of escalation for complex learner issues, providing effective resolutions and support to both tutors and students.
- Ensure all program delivery and assessment practices are fully compliant with internal quality assurance policies and external requirements from awarding bodies and regulatory agencies.
- Manage tutor caseloads to ensure they are equitable, manageable, and optimized for both student success and staff well-being.
- Spearhead the continuous professional development (CPD) for the tutoring team, identifying individual and team-wide training needs and sourcing relevant development opportunities.
- Chair regular, productive team meetings to cascade key organisational updates, standardize practices, and share pedagogical best practices.
- Champion the integration and effective use of digital learning technologies, e-portfolios, and the virtual learning environment (VLE) to enhance the learning experience.
- Lead and coordinate internal verification (IV) and moderation activities, ensuring assessment decisions are fair, accurate, and consistently applied across the team.
- Analyse learner progress data and performance reports to identify trends, pinpoint areas of underperformance, and implement targeted intervention strategies.
- Support the full employee lifecycle for tutors, from participating in recruitment and selection to delivering comprehensive induction and onboarding for new hires.
- Maintain a deep and current understanding of funding rules (e.g., ESFA), curriculum changes, and sector-wide policy updates, ensuring the team is well-informed.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with employers and industry partners to ensure curriculum remains relevant and work placement opportunities are high quality.
- Take an active role in the curriculum review and design process, contributing insights to ensure programs are engaging and meet market needs.
Secondary Functions
- Support the senior management team with ad-hoc data requests and contribute to the preparation of detailed reports for governance and quality boards.
- Play a key role in the organisation's quality cycle, including contributing to the Self-Assessment Report (SAR) and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP).
- Collaborate effectively with cross-functional departments such as Student Services, Admissions, and Careers Guidance to ensure a seamless and supportive student journey.
