Primary Functions

  • Oversee the entire voice-over production pipeline, from initial script breakdown and casting through to final audio mastering and implementation.
  • Develop and execute comprehensive casting strategies to find unique and appropriate voices that match character descriptions and creative briefs.
  • Provide clear, constructive, and inspiring direction to voice talent during recording sessions to elicit performances that align with the creative vision and project requirements.
  • Manage and maintain a robust database of voice talent, agents, and casting directors, fostering strong industry relationships.
  • Collaborate closely with writers, directors, and producers to understand the narrative and emotional intent of the script, ensuring it's translated effectively in the vocal performance.
  • Review and provide detailed feedback on audio takes, making critical selections and guiding the editing process to achieve the highest quality dialogue tracks.
  • Create and manage detailed production schedules for all VO recording sessions, coordinating with studio staff, engineers, and talent to ensure efficiency.
  • Develop, manage, and meticulously track voice-over production budgets, ensuring projects are delivered on time and within financial parameters.
  • Serve as the main point of contact for all matters related to voice-over, liaising between creative, production, and technical teams to ensure seamless communication.
  • Perform quality control checks on all final dialogue assets, verifying they meet technical specifications for loudness, format, and clarity before delivery.
  • Handle the negotiation of contracts and usage rights with talent and their agents, ensuring compliance with union regulations (e.g., SAG-AFTRA) where applicable.
  • Direct and supervise remote recording sessions, troubleshooting technical issues and ensuring high-quality audio capture from various home studio setups.
  • Prepare scripts and other materials for recording sessions, including adding annotations for pronunciation, timing, and emotional cues.
  • Supervise the dialogue editing process, guiding editors on performance selection, breath removal, pacing, and cleanup to create a polished final product.
  • Evaluate and adapt scripts for recording feasibility, identifying potential performance challenges or inconsistencies and proposing solutions.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the technical aspects of audio recording, including microphone selection, placement, and signal chain management.
  • Lead efforts in localization and dubbing projects, overseeing the casting and direction of foreign-language talent to maintain the integrity of the original production.
  • Manage the organization, naming conventions, and archival of all voice-over assets within a digital asset management (DAM) system.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior audio staff, dialogue editors, and production coordinators involved in the VO process.
  • Research and implement new technologies and workflows to enhance the quality and efficiency of the voice-over production process.

  • Audio Editing & Repair: Advanced skills in dialogue editing, noise reduction, and audio restoration using tools like iZotope RX.
  • Casting & Talent Sourcing: Demonstrable experience using casting platforms (e.g., Voice123, Backstage) and maintaining a private talent database.
  • Microphone Techniques: Deep understanding of various microphone types, polar patterns, and placement techniques for capturing high-quality voice recordings.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • A background that includes direct experience as a recording engineer, casting director, or even a professional voice actor.
