Primary Functions

  • Perform descriptive and inferential statistical analyses (frequency distributions, cross-tabulations, t-tests, ANOVA, regression modeling) using R, Python, Stata, or SPSS to produce preliminary results and data visualizations.
  • Maintain and update secured research databases, ensuring participant confidentiality, data encryption, and compliance with HIPAA and institutional data protection policies.
  • Prepare and submit regulatory paperwork including Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications, amendments, adverse event reports, and continuing review materials under supervisor guidance.
  • Coordinate logistics for fieldwork and community-based data collection: scheduling, travel planning, site permissions, equipment preparation, and participant incentives distribution.

  • Create and maintain detailed standard operating procedures (SOPs), protocol manuals, codebooks, and data dictionaries to ensure reproducibility and smooth transitions between project phases.
  • Assist with data visualization and storytelling by producing charts, maps, and infographics (using Tableau, R ggplot2, or Python matplotlib) tailored to scientific and community audiences.
  • Support the development and execution of pilot studies, feasibility assessments, and process evaluations to inform scaling decisions and grant applications.
  • Coordinate sample handling and basic laboratory tasks when applicable (labeling, storage, inventory tracking, and shipping of non-hazardous biological or environmental samples) following biosafety guidance.
  • Engage in regular team meetings, contribute to project planning, help set timelines and milestones, and maintain transparent communication with supervisors about workload and risks.
  • Ensure cultural sensitivity and ethical engagement by adapting recruitment and consent materials for diverse populations, translating instruments as needed, and following community-based participatory research (CBPR) best practices.
