Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

Safely operate clamp-equipped forklifts and sideloaders to move, lift, rotate, clamp and place non-palletized goods such as paper rolls, bales, appliances, drums, and irregular loads according to work orders, shipping instructions and standard operating procedures.

Maintain product integrity by selecting appropriate clamp pressure, pad type and attachment settings for fragile or sensitive materials; minimize marking, crushing or deformation of goods.
Execute safe battery-changing, charging and battery maintenance procedures for electric clamp trucks, including following lockout/tagout and battery handling protocols to prevent injuries and downtime.
Adhere to and enforce all OSHA, DOT and company safety regulations, including proper use of PPE, spotter procedures while backing or maneuvering in tight aisles, and obeying speed and traffic lane rules.
Participate in inbound/outbound quality checks: visually inspect loads for damage, verify packing/labels, quarantine and tag damaged goods, and communicate issues with quality assurance or shipping supervisors.
Support daily shipping targets and KPIs by prioritizing high-velocity SKUs, coordinating with lead operators to balance throughput and safety, and escalating bottlenecks immediately.
Execute cycle counts and physical inventory tasks by moving designated items to count staging areas, assisting inventory teams with access, and reconciling discrepancies in the WMS.
Assist mechanics and maintenance teams with troubleshooting clamp attachment issues, recommend preventive maintenance based on observed wear patterns, and perform basic on-truck maintenance (fluid checks, grease points) per training.
Train and mentor junior forklift operators on clamp-specific techniques, safe handling of non-palletized loads, and company SOPs; provide on-the-job coaching to raise team competency and reduce damage incidents.
Communicate proactively with shipping, receiving and production planners to sequence moves, prioritize orders, and support expedited shipments or returns processing.
Execute controlled stacking/unstacking and rotating of stock for FIFO/FEFO inventory methods and maintain clear, labeled staging areas to support order fulfillment accuracy.
Use appropriate blocking, bracing or secondary containment when staging loads that require additional support for transport or storage and document the methods used per QA guidelines.
Maintain clean and organized work areas and clamp truck housekeeping (removing debris from forks/clamps, ensuring forks free of obstructions) to reduce slip/trip hazards and prevent product contamination.
Follow hazardous material handling procedures when operating near HM shipments; if certified/qualified, move labeled hazardous packages according to DOT and company policies and ensure segregation requirements are met.
Record accurate time and activity logs for shift handovers, including pending moves, equipment status, and any safety incidents, to enable smooth continuity and accountability across shifts.
Participate in continuous improvement events, 5S activities and safety committees by providing operator feedback on clamp performance, facility layout, and material flow opportunities to increase throughput and reduce product damage.

Secondary Functions

Support packing and labeling teams by staging materials, affixing labels and preparing pallet wraps as needed to meet shipping deadlines.
Assist inventory control with data validation and reporting: help locate missing items, reconcile physical vs. system counts and provide photographic evidence when requested.
