Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Accurately pick, pack and stage customer orders according to production and shipping schedules, using RF scanning technology and following order specifications to ensure on-time, accurate fulfillment.
- Load and unload inbound and outbound freight from trucks, containers and pallets using safe manual techniques and powered equipment when certified, ensuring freight is secure and damage-free.
- Operate pallet jacks, hand trucks and (when certified) forklifts and walkie stackers to move materials between receiving, storage, production and shipping areas while following OSHA and company safety procedures.
- Perform receiving duties: verify inbound shipments against purchase orders and packing lists, inspect goods for damage or discrepancies, count items, and enter receiving data into the WMS or inventory system.
- Prepare shipping documentation and labels, apply packing materials appropriately, and ensure packages meet carrier and customer packaging requirements for domestic and international shipments.
- Conduct cycle counts and participate in regular inventory audits; reconcile count discrepancies, investigate root causes, and update inventory records to maintain accuracy.
- Stage orders for shipment and coordinate with carriers and dispatch to schedule pickups, verify rates, and prepare bills of lading or commercial invoices as required.
- Assemble merchandise kits, bundles and promotional items to customer or retail specifications, verify quantities and quality, and package finished shipments efficiently.
- Inspect incoming product for damages, defects, or incorrect items; log quality issues, quarantine defective items, and coordinate returns or supplier claims per process.
- Maintain accurate records of material movements, adjustments and transactions in the Warehouse Management System (WMS) or ERP including lot numbers, serial numbers and expiration dates when applicable.
- Apply FIFO/LIFO procedures and manage inventory rotation for time-sensitive products, including perishable or temperature-controlled items, to minimize waste and ensure product freshness.
- Meet departmental productivity, accuracy and quality KPIs (picks per hour, on-time shipment rate, shipping accuracy) while following established SOPs and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Stage and palletize outbound loads to carrier and dock specifications, secure loads with straps, shrink wrap or banding, and label pallets for easy identification and handling.
- Assist with customs, export documentation and special carrier paperwork for cross-border shipments when required, ensuring compliance with shipping regulations.
- Communicate with supervisors, shipping/receiving coordinators and cross-functional teams to prioritize urgent orders, manage backorders and support peak-period surges.
- Execute returns processing and reverse logistics tasks: inspect returned merchandise, process RMA documentation, return to inventory or route for repair/disposal according to company policy.
- Maintain cleanliness and organization of assigned work areas, aisles and storage racks; remove debris and ensure proper stacking of material to minimize hazards.
- Follow and promote safety protocols including PPE use, lockout/tagout basics, safe lifting techniques and reporting of near misses and incidents to improve workplace safety.
- Perform basic equipment checks and routine maintenance (e.g., checking pallet jack wheels, forklift fluid levels when certified) and report any equipment malfunctions to supervisors promptly.
- Support cross-training initiatives and rotate through receiving, picking, packing, shipping and inventory control stations to maintain operational flexibility.
- Manage special handling requirements for hazardous materials, fragile items or regulated goods according to company policies and relevant regulations (training required for hazmat).
- Accurately document damaged goods, shortages and overages, create discrepancy reports and coordinate resolution with purchasing, suppliers or carriers to minimize financial loss.
- Assist supervisors with training new associates on picking techniques, packing standards, documentation procedures and safety best practices to maintain team performance.
- Participate in lean initiatives, 5S, and continuous improvement activities to streamline workflows, reduce waste and improve order cycle times.
- Support seasonal and volume spike operations by working extended shifts, weekends or overtime as needed to meet customer demand and service level targets.
Secondary Functions
- Provide basic administrative support for the warehouse team such as filing shipping documents, scanning invoices and assisting with data entry for inventory adjustments.
- Help coordinate material staging for production lines, ensuring production has the correct parts and quantities to minimize downtime.
