Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Supervise and coordinate daily inventory activities including receiving, inspection, put-away, cycle counting, replenishment, picking, packing, staging and shipping to ensure accurate on-time order fulfillment and minimize customer returns.
- Develop, document and enforce inventory control procedures, standard operating procedures (SOPs) and best practices to improve accuracy, reduce shrinkage and support compliance with company and regulatory policies.
- Plan, schedule and lead regular cycle counts and full physical inventories, reconcile variances, investigate root causes of discrepancies, and implement corrective actions to improve inventory accuracy over time.
- Manage Warehouse Management System (WMS) and ERP inventory transactions by validating receipts, transfer orders, adjustments, and ensuring SKU master data integrity including item descriptions, dimensions, lot and serial number tracking, and location assignments.
- Lead, coach and develop a team of inventory associates and leads through training, daily briefings, performance feedback and succession planning to build a high-performing and cross-trained workforce.
- Track and analyze inventory KPIs such as inventory accuracy, shrinkage, turns, carrying cost, order fill rate and on-time shipments, creating clear weekly and monthly reports and presenting findings and improvement plans to operations leadership.
- Investigate inventory discrepancies, customer claims and supplier shortages by performing root cause analysis, coordinating with procurement, quality and receiving teams, and documenting resolution and preventative measures.
- Coordinate inbound logistics with carriers, vendors and purchasing to optimize receiving windows, inspect incoming shipments for damage or shortages, and process returns to vendors (RMA) when necessary.
- Drive continuous improvement projects (Kaizen, 5S, lean warehousing) to improve material flow, reduce waste, increase throughput and optimize storage density across the distribution footprint.
- Oversee proper handling and storage of controlled, hazardous, temperature-sensitive, and serialized inventory, ensuring compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory standards including OSHA and DOT requirements.
- Implement and monitor cycle count strategies (ABC, random, location-based) and set counting tolerances to focus resources on high-value, fast-moving or high-risk SKUs to maximize accuracy and resource efficiency.
- Manage stock replenishment and put-away strategies to maintain accurate inventory levels in pick faces and bulk locations, minimize stockouts and support continuous production or order fulfillment schedules.
- Coordinate cross-functional communication with procurement, production planning, quality assurance and customer service to resolve inventory issues and support demand planning and forecasting activities.
- Supervise returns processing, quarantine and disposition decisions, ensuring accurate crediting and disposition documentation and integrating returned goods back into inventory when appropriate.
- Ensure equipment and facility readiness by coordinating preventive maintenance for forklifts, conveyor systems and inventory tracking hardware, and by managing spare parts and supplies related to inventory operations.
- Lead loss prevention and inventory security initiatives including surveillance, access controls, cycle audits and sign-off processes to reduce internal and external theft.
- Create and maintain accurate inventory documentation, bin maps, location labels and cycle count schedules; partner with IT to support barcode, RFID and mobile scanning technology rollouts or updates.
- Manage weekend, overtime and contingency staffing plans to support seasonal peaks, promotions and special projects such as relocations, renovations or system migrations.
- Oversee vendor-managed inventory (VMI) and third-party logistics (3PL) relationships when applicable, conducting regular performance reviews and coordinating inventory transfers and contractual obligations.
- Prepare and deliver inventory variance analyses, month-end reconciliations and audit-ready records for internal and external auditors to support financial close and compliance activities.
- Enforce health and safety protocols, conduct hazard assessments and safety stand-downs, and ensure all inventory staff maintain required certifications for material handling and equipment operation.
- Participate in system implementations, upgrades or data clean-up projects by providing inventory expertise, testing WMS/ERP changes, validating transaction flows and training end users on updated processes.
Secondary Functions

Hard Skills (Technical)
