Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Supervise and coach a cross-functional warehouse team (pickers, packers, forklift operators, clerks) to meet daily productivity, accuracy, and safety targets; conduct regular shift briefings, performance feedback, and disciplinary actions.
- Operate and optimize the Warehouse Management System (WMS) to assign tasks, monitor order progress, update inventory status, manage put-away logic, and ensure cycle counts reconcile to the general ledger.

- Oversee outbound operations to ensure on-time order picking, packing, staging, and loading; verify order accuracy, proper labeling, and compliance with carrier requirements and customer-specific packaging standards.
- Maintain full accountability for inventory accuracy through regular cycle counts, root-cause analysis of variances, inventory reconciliations, and process adjustments to achieve target accuracy rates.
- Enforce and model all site safety programs and procedures (PPE, lockout/tagout, pallet racking inspections), deliver safety training, perform daily safety audits, and lead incident investigations with corrective action plans to reduce workplace injuries.
- Schedule labor and equipment resources based on forecasted workload, peak demand periods, and service level objectives; manage overtime, temporary labor, and shift rotations to control labor costs and maintain service.
- Monitor, analyze, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as orders per hour, on-time shipping, dock-to-stock lead time, inventory accuracy, and cost per order; implement improvement plans based on data.
- Implement and sustain Lean, 5S, and continuous improvement initiatives to reduce waste, streamline material flow, increase throughput, and lower handling costs while improving employee engagement.
- Manage material handling equipment (forklifts, reach trucks, pallet jacks, conveyors) scheduling preventative maintenance, ensuring certification and safe operation, and coordinating repairs to minimize downtime.
- Coordinate with transportation providers, third-party logistics (3PL) partners, and carriers to schedule inbound/outbound appointments, optimize trailer utilization, and resolve carrier disputes affecting on-time delivery.
- Develop and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and training materials for all warehouse processes; ensure staff competency through structured onboarding and ongoing training programs.
- Lead facility readiness for audits and inspections (customer audits, regulatory inspections, ISO, FDA, or other certifications), prepare documentation, and implement corrective actions to address non-conformances.
- Create and manage daily manifests, shipping documentation, bills of lading, and hazardous materials (HAZMAT) paperwork where applicable; ensure DOT compliance for transport of regulated goods.
- Support order fulfillment strategies including pick-to-light, batch picking, zone picking, and wave planning; optimize pick paths and slotting to improve efficiency and reduce travel time.
- Oversee returns processing and reverse logistics, including inspection, disposition (return to stock, repair, scrap), and coordination with customer service to resolve return claims quickly and accurately.
- Control inventory holding costs through effective slotting, product rotation (FIFO/LIFO as required), aging analysis, and disposition of slow-moving or obsolete stock.
- Prepare and manage warehouse operating budgets, monitor spend against targets (labor, temporary labor, equipment repairs, consumables), and identify cost-saving opportunities without sacrificing service levels.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for cross-functional issues impacting warehouse operations (procurement delays, production shortages, customer escalations), escalating to leadership and driving resolution.
- Implement and maintain barcode/RFID scanning processes, ensure accuracy of scanning devices and wireless networks, and lead troubleshooting to minimize scanning-related errors.
- Drive continuous improvements to packaging and kitting processes to reduce damage in transit, minimize material usage, and lower per-order fulfillment costs.
- Facilitate cross-training of team members to create flexible labor pools and improve coverage for seasonal peaks or unexpected absences.
- Establish and maintain relationships with internal stakeholders (sales, customer service, procurement) to align warehouse capabilities with commercial priorities and customer requirements.

Secondary Functions
