  • Oversee inbound receiving operations including manifest reconciliation, quality inspection, short/overage resolution, ASN validation and putaway strategy to ensure fast, accurate flow of goods into the inventory system.
  • Manage outbound order fulfillment processes (picking, packing, staging, loading) to achieve customer SLA targets and on-time delivery metrics while minimizing order defects, mis-picks, and returns.
  • Maintain and optimize inventory accuracy through scheduled cycle counts, physical inventory audits, discrepancy investigation, root cause analysis, and corrective action plans to target > 99% inventory accuracy.
  • Configure, maintain and leverage the Warehouse Management System (WMS) and ERP integrations (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Manhattan) to automate workflows, monitor real-time inventory, and generate operational reports and KPI dashboards.
  • Develop, monitor and report on operational KPIs (inventory accuracy, order cycle time, dock-to-stock, pick & pack rates, labor productivity, OT%) and implement data-driven process improvements to increase efficiency and reduce cost per unit.
  • Create and manage weekly/monthly labor plans, shift schedules and overtime controls to meet fluctuating demand while maintaining labor cost targets and service levels.
  • Enforce safety, security and regulatory compliance (OSHA, DOT, hazardous material handling) by conducting safety audits, toolbox talks, incident investigations, corrective actions and maintaining equipment inspection records.
  • Implement Lean/continuous improvement methodologies (5S, Kaizen, root cause analysis) to reduce waste, improve throughput and standardize best practices across processes and shifts.
  • Coordinate with supply chain, procurement and transportation teams to schedule inbound shipments, optimize cross-docking, manage carrier relationships, and ensure capacity planning aligns with inventory and customer requirements.
  • Control warehouse operating expenses by monitoring budgets, identifying cost-saving opportunities (space utilization, packaging optimization, carrier contracts) and managing capital requests for equipment or system upgrades.
  • Oversee asset and equipment management including forklifts, conveyors, pallet jacks, scales and RF handheld devices—ensuring preventive maintenance, repairs and operator certifications are current.
  • Lead and manage returns processing (RMA), inspection, disposition and reverse logistics workflows to minimize losses and recoverable value while updating system records accurately.
  • Manage vendor and contract relationships with 3PLs, material handlers, equipment suppliers and service providers; negotiate service-level agreements and monitor vendor performance against KPIs.
  • Drive quality assurance initiatives including standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, sampling plans and continuous training to reduce defects, rework and customer escalations.
  • Administer warehouse security protocols (access control, CCTV, cycle counts) and loss prevention programs to mitigate shrink, theft and inventory discrepancies.
  • Plan and oversee new warehouse setups, slotting strategies and layout redesigns to optimize flow, improve storage density and reduce travel time for pickers.
  • Provide accurate and timely operational reporting to senior leadership—summarizing productivity trends, capacity constraints, risk issues and recommended mitigation plans.
  • Lead change management for new systems, process rollouts and major seasonal ramp-ups (promotions, peak holiday volumes), including training plans, go-live support and stabilization activities.
  • Manage customer escalations tied to fulfillment, shortages or damages by coordinating root cause investigations, corrective actions and formal communication to stakeholders.
  • Ensure environmental, health and safety (EHS) programs are implemented and continuously improved, including ergonomic evaluations, PPE compliance and incident reduction goals.
  • Monitor and enforce inventory handling protocols for expiration-dated, lot-controlled, serialized or high-value SKUs to ensure compliance with FIFO/FEFO and traceability requirements.
  • Drive seasonal resource planning, contingency planning and surge staffing strategies, collaborating with HR and staffing partners to secure temporary labor when needed.

Secondary Functions

  • Participate in cross-functional projects including network optimization, new site onboarding, technology deployments and sustainability initiatives to reduce packaging waste and energy usage.
  • Support ad-hoc data requests and generation of custom reports for finance, sales and customer success to provide insight into lead times, fill rates and inventory turns.
  • Mentor high-potential employees and support talent pipeline development by designing career paths, succession plans and structured training curricula.
  • Assist supply chain planning with ABC/XYZ analysis, safety stock recommendations and replenishment strategies based on historical demand patterns and seasonal forecasts.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives by piloting proof-of-concept programs (automation, robotics, voice picking) and evaluating ROI before scale.
  • Help translate customer service issues into operational improvements, collaborating with account managers to align warehouse capabilities with client expectations.
  • Participate in vendor negotiations for packaging materials, carrier rates and equipment leases to secure favorable terms and service quality.
  • Support corporate audits by preparing required documentation, facilitating site tours and implementing audit recommendations.
  • Maintain accurate SOP library and training documentation; update materials to reflect process changes, system updates and compliance requirements.
  • Provide backup support for adjacent functions (transportation scheduling, billing approvals, procurement coordination) during peak periods or staffing gaps.
