Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Receive inbound shipments, verify shipment contents against purchase orders and packing lists, inspect for damage, log variances in the Warehouse Management System (WMS) or ERP, and coordinate with purchasing or suppliers to resolve discrepancies to maintain accurate receiving records.
  • Unload trailers and freight using pallet jacks, forklifts (powered industrial truck), or dock-leveling equipment; stage received goods for inspection and put-away while following established safety protocols and load-securing procedures.
  • Perform accurate put-away and storage of inventory in assigned locations by following WMS-directed put-away strategies (FIFO/LIFO/FEFO), ensuring location accuracy, and optimizing space utilization.
  • Pick and pack customer orders to specified accuracy and speed targets using RF handheld scanners, pick lists, batch picking, or pick-to-light systems; package goods to prevent damage and comply with carrier requirements.
  • Prepare and stage outbound shipments for carriers, generate shipping labels and bills of lading, verify pallet build counts and weights, and ensure shipments are loaded into the correct trailers on scheduled pickup times.
  • Operate warehouse equipment (e.g., sit-down counterbalance forklift, reach truck, order picker, pallet jack) safely and efficiently; maintain required equipment certifications and report equipment defects immediately.
  • Execute daily cycle counts and monthly full physical inventory procedures, reconcile count discrepancies, research root causes, and update inventory records to maintain inventory accuracy targets (e.g., ≥98%).
  • Process returns, inspect returned merchandise, quarantine defective items, document conditions, and coordinate disposition (returned to shelf, repair, scrap, or return-to-vendor) following reverse logistics procedures.
  • Maintain accurate records in WMS/ERP systems for receipts, transfers, adjustments, and dispositions; generate transactional reports and assist managers with ad-hoc inventory reporting.
  • Follow established packing guidelines, including weight and dimensional standards, cushioning, labeling, and documentation to minimize damage claims and returns; escalate issues with packaging materials and suppliers.
  • Perform staging, kitting, and light assembly tasks as required to prepare orders for specific customer or production requirements while documenting kit/component usage in the system.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA, company safety programs, and Hazard Communication standards; participate in safety audits, toolbox talks, and incident investigations, and proactively recommend corrective actions.
  • Load and unload trailers in a manner that protects product integrity and optimizes space; verify carrier manifests and sign for or refuse incorrect or damaged shipments per policy.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as picks per hour, on-time shipments, order accuracy, inventory variance, and dock-to-stock cycle times; proactively communicate performance issues and suggest process improvements.
  • Adhere to temperature-controlled handling procedures for refrigerated or frozen inventory when applicable, including monitoring cold-chain documentation and respecting holding-time limits.

Secondary Functions

  • Support continuous improvement and LEAN warehouse initiatives (5S, Kaizen) by identifying waste, suggesting process improvements, and participating in pilot projects to increase throughput and reduce errors.
  • Cross-train across multiple warehouse functions—receiving, picking, packing, shipping, and inventory control—to provide operational flexibility and coverage during peak periods or absences.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new team members on WMS operations, standard operating procedures (SOPs), equipment operation, and safety protocols to maintain consistent quality and compliance.
  • Help coordinate seasonal volume surges and special projects such as product launches, promotional kits, or emergency fulfillment, including temporary workspace setup and resource allocation.
  • Support quality assurance inspections and lot tracking for serialized or regulated products; maintain traceability records and assist with product recalls or compliance audits as required.
  • Perform routine cleaning, minor preventative maintenance, and daily safety checks on pallet jacks, forklifts, conveyor equipment, and workstations; escalate mechanical issues to maintenance teams.
  • Assist with vendor and carrier communications for delivery exceptions, return authorizations, and claims documentation; maintain professional and responsive external communications.
  • Participate in internal and external audits by preparing documentation, answering inventory questions, and implementing corrective action plans to close audit findings.
  • Prepare cycle count schedules and coordinate counting windows with production or shipping teams to minimize operational disruption and ensure accurate reconciliation.
  • Support sustainability and waste-reduction programs by following packaging-reduction guidelines, promoting recyclable materials, and ensuring proper disposal of waste and non-conforming items.
