  • Pack customer orders using company-approved packing methods: cushion fragile items, box multi-item orders, choose appropriate box sizes, and apply void-fill to protect product during transit.
  • Verify order contents against packing slips and digital manifests, scanning barcodes and updating the WMS to confirm order completion and reduce shipping discrepancies.
  • Apply correct shipping labels and documentation (including commercial invoices, packing lists, and return labels) and ensure labels are legible, placed correctly, and barcode-scannable.
  • Sort and stage packed orders by carrier, route, or delivery window to optimize truck loading efficiency and meet carrier pickup deadlines.
  • Weigh packages, record dimensional weight when required, and confirm shipping classification to ensure correct carrier charges and compliance with carrier guidelines.
  • Inspect product and packaging for damage, blemishes, or contamination; quarantine defective or nonconforming items per SOP and notify supervision for disposition.
  • Assemble and prepare pallets for LTL and full-truck shipments: secure loads with stretch wrap, banding, and corner protectors while following palletization standards and weight limits.
  • Meet or exceed daily productivity and accuracy KPIs (units per hour, order accuracy rate, picks per shift) while maintaining packing quality and safety.
  • Use RF scanners, handheld devices, and WMS interfaces to update inventories, complete pick/pack transactions, and record shipment confirmations in real time.
  • Repack returned merchandise following returns procedures, restock sellable returns to inventory, and complete documentation for defective returns.
  • Maintain appropriate levels of packing supplies (tape, boxes, labels, cushioning) and submit supply requisitions to replenish stock to prevent workflow interruptions.
  • Follow company SOPs and standard packing checklists for fragile, hazardous (if applicable), or regulated products to ensure compliance with safety and shipping regulations.

  • Communicate shipment issues, inventory shortages, or product quality concerns to supervisors and escalate urgent exceptions to the Fulfillment Manager.
  • Maintain accurate production and time records for packed orders and participate in performance reviews to identify training and improvement opportunities.
  • Adhere to all workplace safety and ergonomics practices, including proper lifting techniques, PPE use, and incident reporting to minimize workplace injuries.
  • Participate in continuous improvement initiatives by suggesting packaging efficiencies, cost-saving box size adjustments, and process improvements that reduce damage or transit costs.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with inbound receiving activities when needed: unload trailers, inspect incoming shipments, and move received goods to staging or put-away locations.
  • Support cross-functional tasks during peak season such as order staging, shipping manifest generation, and temporary fulfillment projects to maintain service levels.
  • Keep packing and staging areas clean, organized, and free of hazards; perform basic janitorial duties and recycling/scrap cardboard management to support 5S practices.
