Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Lead end-to-end process design, documentation, and standardization for receiving, putaway, replenishment, picking, packing, staging, loading, returns, and cycle count processes to ensure repeatable, scalable, and auditable warehouse operations.
- Own daily and weekly operational KPIs (e.g., throughput, lines per hour, units per hour, order accuracy, on-time shipments, dock-to-stock time, inventory accuracy) and create action plans to meet or exceed targets through data-driven interventions.
- Design, lead, and sustain Lean and continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen events, 5S, standard work, value stream mapping) to reduce waste, drive productivity gains, and lower operating costs across the distribution center.
- Implement and optimize Warehouse Management System (WMS) workflows, RF scanning rules, pick/pack algorithms, and system-directed tasks in close partnership with IT / Systems Analysts to align technology with process improvements.
- Conduct time-motion studies, labor standards analysis, and capacity planning to establish staffing models, forecast labor demand, and optimize shift scheduling for peak and steady-state periods.
- Develop, maintain, and audit standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and visual management tools to guarantee consistent execution and to onboard new staff efficiently.
- Drive inventory control strategies—cycle count programs, root-cause investigations for discrepancies, reconciliation processes, and shrink reduction plans—to sustain high inventory accuracy and minimize write-offs.
- Lead root cause analysis and corrective action for process failures, quality escapes, and shipment errors, using structured problem-solving methods such as 8D, DMAIC, or A3.
- Coach, mentor, and develop frontline supervisors and leads on performance management, standard work enforcement, safety leadership, and continuous improvement capabilities.
- Partner with transportation and customer service teams to align warehouse processes with customer service levels, order cutoffs, carrier loading protocols, and cross-dock requirements.
- Manage change control and rollout of new processes, equipment, or layouts—plan pilots, measure results, update SOPs, and scale successful solutions across sites or shifts.
- Oversee safety and compliance programs in the warehouse—conduct risk assessments, hazard mitigation, incident investigations, and ensure adherence to OSHA, local regulations, and company EHS standards.
- Execute capacity and layout optimization projects—slotting analyses, storage type rationalization (bulk, bin, totes), aisle and rack configuration—to improve material flow and reduce travel time.
- Define and manage measurement systems and dashboards, using Excel, BI tools, or WMS reporting, to provide real-time operational transparency and drive continuous performance improvement.
- Own onboarding, cross-training, and skills matrix programs that increase workforce flexibility, reduce single-point dependencies, and ensure coverage for critical roles.
- Manage vendor and equipment relationships for material handling systems (conveyors, sortation, pallet jacks, forklifts), coordinate preventive maintenance schedules, and drive uptime improvements with facilities and maintenance teams.
- Execute cost savings initiatives related to labor, space utilization, packaging, and transportation through process redesign and efficiency improvements.
- Support new product introductions, seasonal volume increases, and promotional events by creating scalable operational plans, temporary labor strategies, and contingency processes to maintain service levels.
- Lead audits and continuous monitoring for compliance with quality standards and customer specifications, including handling of non-conforming product and returns management.
- Coordinate cross-functional problem solving with procurement, manufacturing (if applicable), IT, and commercial teams to remove systemic barriers and to deliver reliable supply chain performance improvements.
- Drive data integrity in systems through enforcement of master data standards (item attributes, locations, SLAs) and by partnering with data owners to prevent upstream errors that impact picking and replenishment.
- Facilitate regular operational review meetings—shift handovers, daily stand-ups, and weekly performance reviews—to ensure accountability, escalate issues, and follow through on corrective plans.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement and employee engagement by recognizing achievements, soliciting frontline ideas, and implementing grassroots improvements that increase morale and productivity.
- Prepare and present operational performance analyses, cost-benefit studies, and project business cases to senior leadership to secure investment in automation, system upgrades, or process projects.

Required Skills & Competencies
Hard Skills (Technical)

Educational Background
Minimum Education:
- High school diploma or GED. Proven operational experience in a warehouse or distribution center is often considered equivalent.
