Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead end-to-end warehouse and distribution center projects including discovery, feasibility analysis, solution design, implementation planning, testing, cutover/go-live, and post-implementation hypercare to ensure expected KPIs are achieved.
  • Develop detailed project plans, workstreams, resource plans, budgets, and timelines; monitor project health using milestones, risk registers, RAID logs, and status reporting to stakeholders at all levels.
  • Conduct comprehensive site surveys and time-and-motion studies to quantify current-state performance, identify bottlenecks, and produce data-driven business cases for layout reconfiguration, equipment investments, or process redesign.
  • Design optimized warehouse layouts, storage strategies, picking and put-away flows, and slotting recommendations using warehouse design tools and throughput modeling to maximize space utilization and minimize travel time.
  • Lead WMS selection, configuration, and implementation activities including requirements gathering, fit-gap analysis, functional design documents (FDDs), configuration, integration testing (SIT), user acceptance testing (UAT), and go-live support.
  • Manage ERP–WMS integrations, defining integration points, message flows (e.g., EDI/API), data mappings, and validation to ensure seamless order, inventory, and fulfillment synchronization with systems like SAP, Oracle, or Microsoft Dynamics.
  • Define warehouse operating models and standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions, and exception handling rules; create role-based process documentation to standardize operations across sites.
  • Lead cross-functional workshops with supply chain, procurement, IT, finance, and operations to align requirements, prioritize features, and validate process changes before implementation.
  • Oversee automation and material handling equipment (MHE) projects—vendor selection, requirements definition, acceptance testing, vendor coordination, and on-site commissioning for conveyors, sorters, AS/RS, and AMRs.
  • Implement inventory control and cycle count strategies, root-cause inventory investigations, and reconciliation processes to drive inventory accuracy improvements and reduce write-offs.
  • Define, measure, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as throughput, orders per hour, order accuracy, dock-to-stock lead time, labor productivity, cost per order, and OTIF; present findings to executive stakeholders and recommend corrective actions.
  • Drive Lean and continuous improvement initiatives (Kaizen, 5S, value stream mapping) to reduce waste, lower operating costs, and improve safety and ergonomics across warehouse operations.
  • Manage vendor and third-party logistics (3PL) relationships for implementation partners, integrators, and equipment suppliers—negotiating contracts, SLAs, deliverables, and escalation paths.
  • Facilitate change management and training programs—create training materials, run train-the-trainer sessions, conduct classroom and on-floor training, and monitor adoption metrics to ensure rapid stabilization after go-live.
  • Coordinate go-live cutover activities including data migration, inventory initialization, order freeze procedures, contingency plans, and hypercare staffing to minimize service disruption.
  • Execute risk assessments and compliance audits for warehouse safety (OSHA or local regulations), hazardous materials handling, and security procedures; implement remediation plans and continuous monitoring.
  • Lead cross-site rollouts, replicating successful implementations across multiple distribution centers, creating rollout playbooks, lessons-learned, and shared libraries to accelerate subsequent deployments.
  • Perform financial analysis and cost-benefit modeling for proposed projects including CAPEX vs. OPEX analysis, ROI, TCO, and payback period calculations to support go/no-go decisions.
  • Troubleshoot operational and technical issues during testing and go-live phases, driving root cause analysis (RCA), corrective actions, and preventive measures to avoid recurrence.
  • Partner with IT to define system requirements, performance benchmarks, disaster recovery plans, and ongoing system support models for WMS and warehouse automation technologies.
  • Prepare executive-level presentations, project dashboards, and written reports that clearly articulate project status, risks, financial impacts, and recommendations for senior leadership decisions.
  • Monitor post-implementation performance and run continuous improvement sprints to unlock additional efficiency and capacity while evolving SOPs and re-training staff as processes stabilize.
  • Serve as the primary client-facing consultant on engagements—managing expectations, facilitating governance meetings, and building long-term client relationships focused on measurable outcomes.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc analytics and operational deep-dives using warehouse data to identify performance gaps and quick-win opportunities.
  • Create dashboards and visualizations (Power BI, Tableau) for real-time operational monitoring and executive reporting.
  • Assist procurement and site teams in RFP development, vendor evaluations, and technical scoring during supplier selection processes.
  • Provide subject-matter expertise for tender responses, pre-sales support, and scoping exercises for new business opportunities.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of warehouse technologies, industry best practices, and regulatory changes to advise clients on future-proofing investments.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of internal consulting methodologies, templates, and playbooks to improve delivery consistency and speed.
  • Participate in agile planning ceremonies or fortnightly cadences for large transformation programs to ensure alignment and rapid issue resolution.
  • Coordinate with HR and operations leaders on workforce planning, shift design, and temporary labor strategies during peak seasons or transition periods.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Deep knowledge and hands-on experience implementing WMS platforms (e.g., Blue Yonder/JDA, Manhattan, SAP EWM, Oracle WMS) including configuration, testing, and support.

  • Familiarity with RF/mobile scanning systems, barcode technologies, label printing, and warehouse mobile device management.
  • Basic SQL/querying ability to extract and validate data from WMS/ERP for analysis and reconciliation.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Supply Chain Management, Logistics, Industrial Engineering, Operations Management, Business Administration, or related field.

Preferred Education:

  • Master's degree (MBA, MSc Supply Chain/Logistics, Industrial Engineering) or advanced certifications (PMP, Lean Six Sigma Black/Green Belt).
  • Professional certifications in WMS/ERP platforms or automation vendor certifications preferred.
