Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Provide day-to-day production support and incident resolution for the warehouse management system (WMS), diagnosing root causes and implementing fixes to restore operations while minimizing warehouse downtime.
- Configure WMS workflows, business rules, and transaction types (receiving, putaway, directed picking, packing, wave release, shipping) to align system behavior with warehouse SOPs and service level agreements.
- Lead go-live and hypercare activities for WMS rollouts and upgrades, coordinating cutover plans, validation scripts, real-time support on the warehouse floor, and close-out documentation to ensure a stable production environment.
- Troubleshoot integration issues between WMS and ERP/OMS/TMS using EDI, APIs, XML/JSON payloads, and middleware platforms (e.g., MuleSoft, Dell Boomi), including message replay and corrective data fixes.
- Execute detailed UAT, integration testing, and regression testing plans for system changes; document test cases, capture defects, and verify remediation before promotion to production.
- Perform data migration, cleansing, and reconciliation for master data and transactional records (inventory, SKUs, locations, UOMs) during system implementations and mergers.
- Monitor and analyze warehouse KPIs (inventory accuracy, order cycle time, picks per hour, fill rate) using SQL and BI tools; generate recurring reports and deliver insights and recommended actions to operations leadership.
- Design and implement cycle count strategies, ABC slotting, and physical inventory processes to maximize accuracy and reduce write-offs, including root cause analysis for inventory discrepancies.
- Configure, troubleshoot, and support RF devices, barcode scanners, and mobile applications; manage device provisioning, firmware updates, and wireless coverage validation.
- Provide technical configuration and mapping for label printing, GS1 compliance, cartonization, SSCCs, and barcode standards to ensure regulatory and retailer compliance.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams (operations, procurement, carriers, 3PL partners) to define integration requirements, SLAs, and handoffs for inbound, returns, and outbound flows.
- Create, maintain, and distribute WMS support documentation, runbooks, SOPs, and escalation matrices to enable consistent issue response and rapid onboarding of team members.
- Deliver end-user training and train-the-trainer sessions for warehouse staff and super-users on WMS functionality, RF workflows, and change impacts ahead of system changes or process updates.
- Guide continuous improvement initiatives within the warehouse by applying Lean principles, mapping current-state processes, identifying bottlenecks, and designing target-state solutions that leverage system capabilities.
- Manage support tickets and incident queues with defined SLAs; triage, prioritize, and escalate issues to development teams or vendors and communicate status to stakeholders until resolution.
- Implement performance tuning and optimization for WMS and associated database queries to maintain acceptable transaction response times during peak load and seasonal spikes.
- Coordinate with third-party integrators and vendors for patching, release management, and regression testing of WMS modules and connected systems.
- Support returns and reverse logistics workflows in the WMS, including dispositioning, refurbishment, and restocking rules for multi-channel returns streams.
- Lead slotting and capacity planning efforts, using historical demand patterns to recommend location reassignments, replenishment triggers, and space utilization improvements.
- Facilitate compliance with safety, customs, and trade requirements in the warehouse by ensuring the WMS correctly handles restricted items, hazardous materials labeling, and inspection holds.
- Act as the subject matter expert for automation interfaces (conveyor controls, pick-to-light, AS/RS, robotics), coordinating message flows and exception handling between automation controllers and the WMS.
- Prepare change requests, impact analysis, and business cases for WMS enhancements, prioritizing work that drives labor savings, accuracy improvements, or throughput gains.
- Support seasonal and promotional capacity planning by simulating workloads, identifying resource gaps, and proposing temporary process or configuration adjustments to meet demand.
- Perform ad-hoc data analysis and SQL queries to validate scenario outcomes, assist inventory investigations, and support legal or audit requests related to warehouse transactions.
- Build and refine dashboards in Power BI or Tableau to provide leadership with near real-time visibility into operational performance and support data-driven decision making.
Secondary Functions
- Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
- Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
- Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
- Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team.
- Mentor junior support staff and share best practices for incident handling and knowledge capture.
- Participate in supplier and 3PL reviews to evaluate operational impacts from system and process changes.
