Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Execute daily workforce plans by translating staffing rosters, shift assignments and position templates into deployed labor on the floor, ensuring coverage for picking, packing, shipping, receiving, returns and cross-dock operations.
  • Monitor and manage real-time productivity and quality KPIs (picks per hour, units per hour, lines per hour, percent accuracy, OT%, fill rate) and take immediate corrective actions to meet or exceed targets.
  • Operate and maintain warehouse systems and tools—Warehouse Management System (WMS), Labor Management System (LMS), RF scanners and handhelds—ensuring accurate device configuration, data integrity, and timely exception resolution.
  • Stage and coordinate temporary labor, overtime, and shift adjustments in response to volume surges, inbound schedule changes, or equipment downtime while minimizing labor cost variance.
  • Support inbound receiving and outbound shipping execution by verifying manifests, coordinating dock assignments, auditing load configurations and ensuring compliance with carrier instructions and documentation.
  • Perform hands-on order fulfillment tasks as needed (picking, packing, palletizing) to meet service commitments and model expected performance for the team.
  • Conduct pre-shift briefings and end-of-shift debriefs to communicate goals, safety requirements, deviations, and performance feedback to associates and leads.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instructions and safety policies; enforce adherence and recommend updates to reflect best practices.
  • Provide on-the-floor training, coaching and mentoring for new hires and existing staff on equipment operation (forklifts, pallet jacks), RF devices, WMS workflows and quality expectations.
  • Troubleshoot minor equipment issues (scales, label printers, scanners) and escalate technical incidents to maintenance or IT while logging incidents and resolutions for continuous improvement.
  • Perform inventory cycle counts, discrepancy investigations and adjustments in the WMS and collaborate with inventory control to reduce shrink and improve accuracy.
  • Support load building and staging processes to optimize trailer utilization, routing efficiency and carrier compliance.
  • Manage and document safety incidents and near-misses, perform root cause analysis and drive corrective actions to reduce risk and OSHA recordables.
  • Execute process improvement initiatives (Lean, 5S, Kaizen) to reduce touch points, increase throughput and improve ergonomics across warehouse processes.
  • Validate and enforce product identification, labeling, shelf-life rotation (FIFO/LIFO), hold tags and quarantine procedures for damaged or suspect inventory.
  • Coordinate cross-functional communication with planning, procurement, quality, IT and carriers to resolve operational blockers and align on changes to schedules or priorities.
  • Generate and maintain daily operational reports (productivity, attendance, exceptions, rejects) and provide actionable insights to supervisors and managers.
  • Manage timekeeping exceptions, badge access, and shift swap documentation, ensuring payroll accuracy and compliance with company policies.
  • Assist in onboarding seasonal or temporary staff—task assignment, credentialing, safety orientation and performance monitoring through training period.
  • Support returns processing and RMA workflows, ensuring proper disposition, restocking or disposal according to returns policy.
  • Maintain clean, organized and compliant work areas by enforcing housekeeping standards, 5S principles and proper Material Handling Equipment (MHE) storage.
  • Participate in peak season planning, holiday staffing, and contingency planning for weather or disruption events, including executing surge labor strategies.
  • Ensure compliance with hazardous materials handling (if applicable), regulatory requirements and company SOPs during inbound, storage and outbound activities.
  • Collaborate with IT and data teams to test and validate system changes, WMS updates, firmware rollouts and configuration tweaks that impact workforce execution.

Secondary Functions

  • Prepare and deliver ad-hoc operational and performance reports for management reviews and continuous improvement projects.
  • Support cross-functional projects such as new product introductions, layout changes, and technology rollouts by providing operational feedback and conducting pilot tests.
  • Assist with supplier and carrier audits by providing documentation, floor access and operational context during visits.
  • Participate in sprint planning and change management activities when the warehouse adopts new software or hardware capabilities.
  • Contribute to the organization’s continuous improvement roadmap by documenting pain points, suggesting experiments, and leading small-scale trials on the warehouse floor.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

  • Proficient with Warehouse Management Systems (WMS) such as Manhattan, JDA/Blue Yonder, SAP EWM, Oracle WMS or similar.
  • Hands-on experience with Labor Management Systems (LMS) and workforce planning tools; ability to interpret daily labor scorecards and variance reports.
  • Skilled with RF handheld scanners, barcode label printers, mobile devices and common warehouse peripherals.
  • Forklift certification and safe operation experience (counterbalance, reach, pallet jack); familiarity with MHE preventive checks.
  • Strong Excel skills (pivot tables, v-lookups, basic macros) and ability to prepare productivity and labor cost spreadsheets.
  • Familiarity with ERP/TMS interfaces and order flow between systems; basic troubleshooting of transactional errors.
  • Knowledge of inventory control methodologies (cycle counting, root cause analysis for shrink, reconciliation procedures).
  • Experience with rate-based performance measurement and incentive programs; ability to apply time standards and effort balancing.
  • Understanding of OSHA regulations, DOT requirements (if shipping), and company safety policies.
  • Ability to operate basic shop equipment and test scanners/printers; coordinate with IT for deeper technical issues.
  • Competency in using warehouse dashboards and BI tools (Power BI, Tableau) for daily monitoring and reporting.

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
