Primary Functions

  • Inspect vehicles and equipment before and after washing to identify safety issues, mechanical damage, leaks, flat tires or missing components, and report findings immediately to supervisors for follow-up.
  • Perform basic interior cleaning and detailing tasks — vacuuming, wiping dashboards, removing trash, spot cleaning upholstery, and deodorizing cabins — to deliver customer-ready interiors.
  • Maintain organized, labeled inventory of cleaning chemicals, PPE, hoses, nozzles, brushes and consumables; rotate stock using FIFO and request replenishment when levels fall below reorder points.
  • Use steam cleaning and hot-water systems to remove heavy grease and oil from engines, undercarriages and equipment components while following heat and burn safety procedures.
  • Follow lockout/tagout procedures and safe work permits when washing powered equipment or servicing bay systems, ensuring equipment is secured and de-energized as required.
  • Operate lifts, ramps, or vehicle turntables safely to access undercarriages and tight areas, and secure vehicles with wheel chocks and blocks during cleaning operations.
  • Maintain, clean and perform routine preventive maintenance on wash bay equipment — pressure washers, pumps, hoses, foamers, and vacuums — including filter checks, oil changes, and nozzle inspection.
  • Accurately complete wash logs, inspection checklists, and electronic work orders to document services performed, chemicals used, customer requests and detected maintenance issues in the fleet management or maintenance system.
  • Adhere to all federal, state and local regulations governing wastewater discharge, hazardous materials handling and spill reporting; participate in required environmental training and audits.
  • Use appropriate PPE (gloves, goggles, chemical-resistant suits, boots, hearing protection) and enforce PPE use for all personnel in the wash bay to maintain a safe work environment.
  • Manage solids and debris removal (oil separations, grit traps, filter bags) and coordinate with environmental or facilities teams for proper disposal or recycling of hazardous and non-hazardous waste streams.
  • Communicate directly with drivers, dispatchers and fleet managers to confirm vehicle service needs, prioritize wash order and provide estimated completion times to support operational schedules.
  • Assist in scheduling and coordinating wash bay appointments to support high-volume fleet operations, minimizing downtime and ensuring on-time vehicle return to service.
  • Apply protective coatings, rust inhibitors or undercoatings to vehicle components as requested, following product guidelines and safety requirements.
  • Participate in continuous improvement by recommending process improvements, chemical substitutions, or equipment upgrades to increase wash quality, reduce water use or lower chemical costs.
  • Train and mentor new wash bay staff on safe operation of equipment, chemical handling, inspection points and company standard operating procedures to maintain consistent service quality.
  • Respond to emergency cleanups (oil spills, hazardous material leaks) in accordance with spill response plans and PPE protocols, containing and cleaning spills until environmental teams arrive.
  • Perform occasional light mechanical assistance, such as removing caked mud, tightening loose hardware, or replacing small fasteners under supervision, to ensure vehicles are safe and roadworthy.

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
