Core Responsibilities
Primary Functions
- Supervise daily welding operations across one or more shifts, planning workloads, assigning welders, and ensuring production targets and schedule milestones are met while maintaining quality and safety standards.
- Maintain direct accountability for welding quality by enforcing Welding Procedure Specifications (WPS), weld maps, tack routines, and pre/post‑weld processes to ensure compliance with AWS, ASME, ISO, and customer-specific codes.
- Review and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, welding symbols, and Bill of Materials (BOM) to determine welding requirements, joint configurations, tolerances, and weld sequence, and communicate clear instructions to the welding team.
- Mentor and train welders on processes and techniques (GMAW/MIG, GTAW/TIG, SMAW/Stick, FCAW), use of specialized fixtures, and best practices to raise shop skill levels and reduce rework.
- Implement and manage a structured weld qualification program and coordinate welder certifications, retests, and documentation to ensure all operators remain current and compliant with customer or regulatory requirements.
- Conduct routine weld inspections and non‑destructive testing (NDT) coordination — visual, dye penetrant, magnetic particle, ultrasonic or radiography — and work with Quality to disposition defects and corrective actions.
- Lead continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives to optimize throughput, reduce cycle times, lower scrap and rework, and improve shop floor ergonomics and fixture efficiency.
- Schedule labor and equipment resources, including robotic welding cells and automated systems, to balance capacity with demand and minimize overtime while maintaining delivery commitments.
- Work closely with Planning, Procurement, and Maintenance to ensure materials, consumables, and welding equipment are available, calibrated, and in service-ready condition to avoid production interruptions.
- Develop, track, and report key performance indicators (KPIs) such as weld yield, first-pass yield, on-time delivery, scrap rates, safety incidents, and productivity metrics to site leadership.
- Enforce safety programs and policies, perform daily safety briefings, conduct near-miss investigations, and ensure welding operations meet OSHA and company health and safety standards, including proper ventilation and PPE usage.
- Manage corrective action processes for weld defects: root cause analysis, containment, corrective plan development, and verification to prevent recurrence of quality issues.
- Collaborate with Engineering on design for manufacturability (DFM), welding sequence optimization, selection of filler metals and pre/post-heat requirements, and process changes to improve part quality and reduce cost.
- Oversee jigs, fixtures, and weldment clamping strategies to ensure repeatability and alignment for critical weld joints and complex assemblies.
- Control and maintain documentation for welding activities: welding logs, procedure files, welder qualification records, NDT reports, and customer-required traceability records.
- Coordinate start-up and qualification of new welding processes or equipment, including robotic welding programming, tooling trials, and pilot production runs.
- Lead hiring, performance management, and workforce development for the welding team; conduct performance reviews, set objectives, and implement development plans for individual welders.
- Provide technical support to sales and customer service teams for quotes, feasibility assessments, and resolution of field welding issues or product nonconformances.
- Manage shop housekeeping and 5S initiatives in the welding area to improve safety, reduce foreign object debris (FOD), and maintain clean, organized workspaces.
- Serve as primary escalation point during shift incidents involving welding defects, equipment failures, or production stoppages and coordinate cross‑functional response to restore operations.
- Monitor and control welding consumable usage and cost, standardize approved consumables, and work with procurement to secure competitive supply while ensuring material traceability.
- Maintain vendor relationships for contract welding services, NDT providers, and repair partners; evaluate third-party welding work and ensure it meets company quality standards.
- Stay current with welding codes, industry trends, and new process technologies (laser hybrid, friction stir, etc.) and recommend adoption where it brings measurable benefit.

Educational Background
Minimum Education:
