  • Ensure legal and regulatory compliance by coordinating permitting, environmental impact assessments, biodiversity offset planning and adherence to national and international conservation legislation.
  • Conduct socio-economic assessments and participatory rural appraisals to integrate community livelihoods, gender considerations and Indigenous knowledge into conservation planning and benefit-sharing mechanisms.
  • Use advanced GIS, spatial modeling (habitat suitability, connectivity modeling) and statistical analysis to support prioritization, scenario planning and impact evaluation of conservation interventions.
  • Design and oversee habitat restoration and invasive species control programs, including planting plans, seed sourcing, invasive species removal, and post-restoration monitoring to recover ecosystem function.
  • Provide policy advocacy and technical advice to government agencies and regional bodies on protected area design, land-use planning, species listings and cross-border conservation initiatives.
  • Implement health, safety and biosecurity protocols for field teams, including COVID-19 or other public health measures, wildlife handling standards and emergency response planning.
  • Facilitate stakeholder workshops, technical working groups and participatory mapping sessions to build consensus, create joint implementation plans and document agreements between partners.
  • Lead adaptive management cycles: synthesize monitoring results, revise project strategies, realign budgets and communicate changes to donors and stakeholders to ensure results-based delivery.
  • Oversee the deployment and maintenance of monitoring technologies (camera trap networks, acoustic sensors, satellite collars) and ensure timely retrieval, storage and secure backup of raw and processed datasets.
  • Coordinate transboundary conservation initiatives and regional networks, negotiate memoranda of understanding (MOUs) and harmonize monitoring protocols across jurisdictions.
  • Support biodiversity risk assessments and integrate climate vulnerability and resilience planning into conservation program design to future-proof interventions against changing environmental conditions.
  • Prepare and present high-quality technical and financial reports for donors and governing boards; respond to audits and implement recommended corrective actions.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc technical reviews and rapid assessments for proposal development and emergency conservation responses (e.g., disease outbreaks, oil spills, habitat destruction).
  • Provide input into organizational strategy and long-term conservation planning; contribute market intelligence on funding trends and partnership opportunities.
  • Contribute to the development and maintenance of standardized monitoring databases, data dictionaries and metadata for long-term knowledge management.
  • Assist communications and fundraising teams with case studies, success stories and impact metrics to enhance donor and public engagement.
  • Participate in inter-agency coordination forums, technical networks and conferences to represent the program and share lessons learned.
  • Conduct periodic compliance checks and support internal audits related to environmental safeguards, permits and donor contractual requirements.
  • Support the recruitment, onboarding and supervision of short-term technical specialists and seasonal field staff.
  • Assist with logistics planning and supply chain coordination for field operations, including transport, equipment procurement and inventory management.
