  • Translate business and functional requirements into detailed technical integration specifications, including data mappings, transformation rules, security requirements, error handling, and performance SLAs.
  • Design and implement robust message transformation logic (XML, XSLT, JSON) and orchestration patterns to support complex HR, payroll, benefits, and financial data flows between Workday and third-party systems (payroll vendors, benefits carriers, identity providers, data warehouses).
  • Configure and maintain inbound and outbound integrations for Core HCM, Payroll, Absence, Time Tracking, Benefits, and Recruiting modules, ensuring accuracy and completeness of person, payroll, and position data across systems.
  • Implement secure authentication and connectivity patterns including SAML, OAuth, basic auth, mutual TLS, secured endpoints, and SFTP for batch and real-time integrations.
  • Build reusable, parameterized integration components and templates in Workday Studio and EIB to accelerate future development and reduce technical debt.
  • Author comprehensive integration design documents, technical runbooks, tenant configuration guides, and release notes to support handover and operational continuity.
  • Execute unit, integration, system, and regression testing for integrations; coordinate and lead cross-functional SIT/UAT cycles with HR, payroll, and business stakeholders.
  • Troubleshoot, triage, and resolve production integration incidents and data discrepancies; analyze logs, trace transactions, and implement permanent fixes while communicating status to stakeholders.
  • Implement monitoring, alerting, and health-check processes for integrations, including automated extracts, error dashboards, and SLA tracking.
  • Collaborate with data governance, security, and compliance teams to ensure integrations meet data privacy, encryption, and retention policies (e.g., GDPR, HIPAA as applicable).
  • Manage data conversion and migration activities related to integrations during Workday implementations, including pre-load validations, reconciliation, and cutover planning.
  • Optimize integration performance and throughput by tuning transformations, batching strategies, concurrency, and throttling to meet processing windows and system limits.
  • Coordinate releases and change management activities for integration updates across non-production and production Workday tenants, following CI/CD and deployment best practices.
  • Partner with third-party vendors and payroll/benefits carriers to implement and certify integration interfaces, coordinate testing cycles, and resolve vendor-related issues.
  • Lead discovery workshops with HR and business process owners to identify integration requirements, SLAs, and data-quality rules that align with overall HRIS strategy.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to junior integration developers and Workday consultants; conduct peer reviews and enforce code/configuration standards.
  • Maintain an up-to-date knowledge base of Workday integration patterns, supported connectors, API changes, and release notes to proactively assess impact of Workday upgrades.
  • Drive continuous improvement by analyzing recurring incidents, root causes, and implementing preventive measures such as enhanced validations, alerts, and failure handling.
  • Support payroll and month-end close activities related to integrations, including last pay extracts, retro calculations, and payroll data reconciliation with Workday.
  • Ensure proper segregation of duties and role-based access controls for integration development and runtime, coordinating with identity and access management teams.
  • Create and present status updates, risk logs, and integration roadmaps to program leadership, emphasizing technical debt, delivery timelines, and resource needs.
  • Participate in Proof of Concept (PoC) efforts to evaluate new integration tools, iPaaS solutions, or Workday features that can simplify future integrations and reduce operational burden.

Secondary Functions

  • Support ad-hoc data requests and exploratory data analysis.
  • Contribute to the organization's data strategy and roadmap.
  • Collaborate with business units to translate data needs into engineering requirements.
  • Participate in sprint planning and agile ceremonies within the data engineering team.
  • Assist HR operations with bulk data loads (EIB) and day-to-day tenant configuration changes as needed.
  • Provide on-call rotation support for priority incident response and major release windows.
  • Develop training materials and deliver integration-focused training sessions for power users and support teams.
