Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Prepare, maintain, and monitor sterile culture systems for xenobiotic organisms and synthetic biological constructs, including routine passaging, contamination checks, cryopreservation, and thawing in accordance with written SOPs and biosafety level requirements.
  • Execute molecular biology workflows such as PCR, qPCR, RT-PCR, plasmid preparation, gel electrophoresis, and nucleic acid purification with attention to reproducibility, contamination control, and proper documentation for GLP or research-grade experiments.

  • Assist in CRISPR/Cas gene editing experiments, including design verification, guide RNA preparation, transfection support, clonal isolation, and genotyping workflows under supervision of senior scientists.
  • Conduct protein expression and purification support tasks (bacterial, yeast, or insect cell expression systems), including small-scale expression tests, affinity chromatography sample prep, SDS-PAGE, and protein concentration measurements.
  • Operate and maintain common lab instrumentation: biosafety cabinets, CO2 incubators, refrigerated centrifuges, microplate readers, thermocyclers, spectrophotometers, and automated liquid handlers, including routine calibration logs and troubleshooting.

  • Execute environmental monitoring and decontamination protocols in the xenobiology suite, including surface swabs, incubator cleaning, HEPA filter checks, and documentation of corrective actions.
  • Implement sample tracking and chain-of-custody procedures for sensitive or regulated samples, ensuring appropriate labeling, secure storage, and proper transfer documentation for internal or external collaborators.
  • Support design-of-experiments (DOE) under guidance: set up experimental matrices, randomization, replicate structure, and accurate recording of experimental conditions and deviations in electronic lab notebooks (ELNs).
  • Process and prepare biological samples for mass spectrometry, HPLC, or metabolomics workflows, including extraction, derivatization, and QC steps for reliable downstream analysis.
  • Participate in protocol development and SOP updates by providing hands-on feedback, performing validation runs, and documenting performance metrics and change control records.
