Primary Functions

- Manage crew scheduling, leave planning, recruitment and performance reviews, ensuring adequate watch rotations and coverage for extended transits, charters and refit periods.
- Conduct technical inspections and sea trials following maintenance or refit work, verify contractor scopes, quality of workmanship and sign off on system returns to service with documented checklists.
- Coordinate fuel, water and waste handling logistics, monitor fuel consumption and bunker reconciliations, and ensure secure, compliant bunkering operations at each port or anchorage.
- Implement and maintain security procedures, access control and guest/crew screening during port stays and shipboard events, liaising with port authorities and private security where required.
- Maintain accurate logbooks, engine room records, safety equipment inventories, oil record books, garbage disposal logs and all regulatory documentation required for inspections and port state control visits.
- Oversee environmental compliance programs, leading initiatives to reduce fuel consumption, emissions and waste, and introducing energy-saving or green technologies when feasible.
- Lead incident investigations, produce root-cause analyses and corrective action plans for equipment failures, safety incidents or guest complaints and follow-up to ensure closure and organizational learning.
- Support and sometimes lead small refit or project management efforts including scheduling subcontractors, managing technical specifications, project budget tracking and supervising contractor work onboard and ashore.
- Liaise with insurance brokers, classification societies, MCA or flag administration and port state control officials during surveys, claims or regulatory queries and ensure rapid, professional resolution.
- Provide detailed operational handover reports for incoming captains or shore management, including maintenance history, outstanding defects, contractor contacts and upcoming regulatory milestones.
- Maintain and optimize on-board IT, navigation and communication systems in coordination with technical specialists and vendors, ensuring reliable connectivity for operations, safety and guest services.
- Monitor and adapt to COVID-19, health and biosecurity protocols as required by flag, port or owner policies, coordinating testing, quarantine and medical evacuation plans when necessary.
