Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Plan, prepare, and deliver in-studio and online yoga classes (e.g., Vinyasa, Hatha, Restorative, Yin, Prenatal) that are sequenced safely and progressively to meet the needs of mixed-ability groups and individual clients.
  • Provide clear vocal and hands-on adjustments and cues that improve alignment, deepen experience, and reduce injury risk while honoring individual student boundaries and consent.
  • Create and adapt class plans and modifications for students with injuries, mobility limitations, pregnancy, or chronic conditions by integrating knowledge of anatomy and contraindications.
  • Lead private one-on-one sessions and small group coaching that include intake assessments, tailored sequencing, home practice recommendations, and follow-up notes to track client progress.
  • Implement and enforce studio safety protocols, including emergency response procedures, incident reporting, and maintaining a clean, hazard-free practice environment.
  • Conduct student intake and pre-class screenings to identify health concerns, recent injuries, or special needs, and communicate relevant information to the teaching team when appropriate and with consent.
  • Maintain accurate client records, class rosters, and session notes in the studio management system (e.g., Mindbody, Vagaro) to ensure continuity of care and high-quality service.
  • Support the studio’s class schedule by consistently arriving early to set up props, music, and technology for livestream/hybrid classes and resolving on-the-spot technical issues.
  • Serve as an ambassador for the studio by greeting students, answering inquiries, processing class bookings and payments, and introducing new clients to membership options and class formats.
  • Deliver high-touch customer service: proactively follow up with newcomers, convert trial attendees to regular students, and respond to client feedback in a timely, professional manner.
  • Design and deliver themed workshops, teacher trainings, retreats, and community events to increase student engagement, diversify revenue streams, and strengthen the studio brand.
  • Collaborate with other instructors and management to standardize class offerings, contribute to curriculum development, and ensure consistent teaching quality across all sessions.
  • Monitor inventory for props, retail merchandise (mats, blocks, straps), and studio supplies; assist with purchasing and merchandising to maximize retail sales and studio sustainability.
  • Lead social media content creation and marketing support by contributing class highlights, short practice clips, blog posts, and email copy that promote classes and special events.
  • Collect and analyze student feedback and attendance patterns to recommend schedule changes, pricing adjustments, or new class formats that improve retention and growth.
  • Mentor junior teachers and trainee instructors by providing constructive feedback, model classes, and co-teaching opportunities to build teaching capacity within the studio.
  • Maintain professional credentials and continuing education: renew Yoga Alliance registration, complete required CE hours, and stay current with best practices in biomechanics and trauma-informed teaching.
  • Facilitate hybrid and livestream classes by managing camera framing, sound levels, and online student engagement to provide an inclusive virtual experience.
  • Uphold confidentiality and ethical standards when handling sensitive student information, medical histories, or payment details.
  • Support outreach partnerships with local businesses, schools, or wellness providers to create community programming and increase class visibility.
  • Participate in monthly staff meetings, contribute to operational planning, and support quarterly goals focused on retention, revenue, and community engagement.
  • Promote accessibility initiatives by offering donation-based classes, adaptive yoga sessions, or sliding-scale workshops to serve diverse community needs.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with studio opening/closing procedures, cash reconciliation, and basic bookkeeping tasks when needed.
  • Help onboard new staff with orientation materials, policies, and shadowing opportunities to accelerate integration.
  • Maintain and sanitize props, laundry rotation, and equipment inventory to meet hygiene standards and client expectations.
  • Support occasional off-site events such as corporate wellness days, private parties, or vendor fairs to expand studio exposure.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; completion of a 200-hour Yoga Teacher Training (YTT200) recognized by Yoga Alliance or equivalent program.

Preferred Education:
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, Exercise Science, Dance, Physical Therapy Assistant, Psychology, or related wellness fields; 500-hour yoga certification or specialized training (prenatal, therapeutic, trauma-informed).

Relevant Fields of Study:
