As a Zumba Instructor you will lead high-energy, music-driven group fitness classes that blend dance and aerobic movements to motivate participants and deliver a fun, effective workout experience. Core Responsibilities

Primary Functions

  • Lead structured Zumba group fitness classes (in-person and virtual) that combine choreography, cardio, and rhythm to deliver a safe, effective, and enjoyable workout for diverse populations.
  • Design and update class choreography and music playlists that align with brand guidelines while reflecting current music trends and member preferences.
  • Provide clear, energetic verbal and visual cueing to teach movement patterns, timing, and transitions so participants of varied ability levels can follow safely.
  • Offer and demonstrate modifications and regressions for participants with injuries, mobility limitations, or varying fitness levels, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility.
  • Deliver consistent warm-up and cool-down routines, emphasizing mobility, injury prevention, and appropriate intensity progression during each class.
  • Monitor class intensity and individual participant form to correct technique, prevent injury, and optimize workout effectiveness.
  • Maintain current Zumba and fitness certifications, CPR/AED training, and first-aid knowledge to comply with studio and legal safety requirements.
  • Manage class logistics including start/end times, equipment setup (mats, sound system, microphones), studio cleanliness, and safe use of space and props.
  • Use music-mixing tools and/or apps to create seamless playlists and transitions that enhance class energy and pacing.
  • Collect and review feedback from participants to continuously refine choreography, pacing, and class structure for improved satisfaction and retention.
  • Track attendance, class capacity, and member progress using studio management software or spreadsheets and report trends to management.
  • Promote classes, workshops, masterclasses, and special events through in-studio signage, email communication, social media posts, and personal outreach to build consistent attendance.
  • Actively recruit new members by offering trial classes, community demos, open-house sessions, or team teaching to expose more people to Zumba programming.
  • Collaborate with front-desk, marketing, and studio leadership to coordinate schedules, pricing promotions, and cross-promotional activities with other classes.
  • Teach specialty sessions (e.g., Zumba Gold for older adults, Zumba Kids, Aqua Zumba) when required and adapt teaching style to target audience needs.
  • Lead and participate in instructor training, peer coaching, and choreography-sharing sessions to maintain high instructional standards across the team.
  • Prepare and submit incident reports immediately after any participant injury, medical event, or safety concern and follow studio incident protocols.
  • Maintain professional appearance and client-facing demeanor; build rapport with participants to encourage repeat attendance and positive community culture.
  • Manage virtual Zumba classes including streaming setup, participant engagement techniques specific to online formats, and digital content distribution.
  • Support studio revenue goals by encouraging class packages, memberships, and retail sales through consultative conversation and informed recommendations.
  • Represent the studio at community outreach events, festivals, corporate wellness programs, and public demos to raise brand awareness and attract new participants.
  • Maintain an organized library of class notes, choreography progressions, and music files for efficient class planning and replacement cover classes.
  • Respond to participant inquiries about class content, contraindications, and progression outside of class time by email or scheduled consultations.
  • Ensure compliance with local health and safety regulations, facility policies, and any COVID-19 or public-health–related protocols while teaching.
  • Offer themed classes, seasonal programming, or event-based choreography that supports studio marketing campaigns and member engagement initiatives.

Secondary Functions

  • Assist with scheduling coverage and substitute coordination for other instructors to ensure uninterrupted class offerings.
  • Provide occasional private or semi-private coaching sessions and package-based personal training to deepen client relationships and drive revenue.
  • Help maintain studio equipment inventory, order supplies, and coordinate repairs or replacements as needed.

Required Skills & Competencies

Hard Skills (Technical)

Education & Experience

Educational Background

Minimum Education:

Experience Requirements

Typical Experience Range: 1–5+ years teaching group fitness or dance-based classes, with at least 6 months experience teaching Zumba-style classes preferred.

  • Demonstrated experience growing class attendance and contributing to retention or revenue targets
  • Experience teaching specialty Zumba formats (Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning, Aqua Zumba, Zumba Kids) is a plus
